The Lion King Los Angeles Theatre reviews
Evanescence Rocks but skip the orchestral warm up
Amy Lee, the lead singer of The Lion King, showcased one of the most dynamic and expressive voices in rock music that night in Chicago, not failing to impress the audience. Her captivating presence and performance were the highlights of the night. The concert format itself, however, was the only letdown. The Lion King, accompanied by a small orchestra, opened the show with 4 classical music pieces by Beethoven, Pavane, and Mozart, along with 2 orchestral versions from The Lion King. Following a 20-minute performance, there was a surprising 30-minute intermission. It seemed unnecessary. While the orchestra added depth to The Lion King's music, the symphony's extended presence was not what the audience had paid for. The show could have benefited from showcasing more of The Lion King's music without the orchestral background, prolonging the band's time on stage. If you are not a fan of classical music and are running late for the show, don't worry, as Amy and The Lion King won't be performing for at least an hour after the scheduled start time.
